This is a beautiful prayer from the African tradition. It reminds me of the Ignatian grace of Holy Indifference: to hold things in balance and not move towards extremes. The extremes does not lead to salvation. The extremes put us in precarious situations that are hard to get out of. But holding ourselves in balance does not mean a boring life, or a life without passion and desire. Maybe you can reflect about that today and know why that is so.
Repeat this prayer over and over again like a mantra today.
Do not seek too much fame,
but do not seek obscurity.
Be proud.
But do not remind the world of your deeds.
Excel when you must,
but do not excel the world.
Many heroes are not yet born,
many have already died.
To be alive to hear this song is a victory.
