In honor of my Ignatian roots, I’ve been anchoring my mornings with a simple practice the past months. It’s a kind of Ignatian Examen in miniature.

You can do it in 1.5 minutes.
Tantum quantum—use only what helps.

The Three Breaths of Gratitude

1st Breath – Receive the Moment
Inhale slowly.
Exhale with awareness.
Whisper to yourself:
“I am here. I am safe. I am held.”

2nd Breath – Recall the Gift
Call to mind one grace in the past 12 hours – don’t overwhelm yourself. Choose just one.
Allow that moment to make space inside you.
Whisper to yourself:
“This was grace.”

3rd Breath – Return the Gift
Inhale with intention.
Exhale into the world.
Whisper to yourself:
“Let me live this day as thanks.”
