“The world has forgotten the joys of silence, the peace of solitude which is necessary, to some extent, for the fullness of human living. Not all men are called to be hermits, but all men need enough silence and solitude in their lives to enable the deep inner voice of their own true self to be heard at least occasionally.”
So today I invite you to practice active silence throughout this day. First, you do this by setting up your environment (your room if you are at home; or your office space if you are working in the office) to become conducive to silence. What can you do? Maybe you need some headphones to signal to your coworkers that you don’t want to be talked to? I and my wife work from home, and we just message each other on Viber if we want to tell each other something instead of blurting it out. And just like if we were in the office, we use lunch as our talk time. What can you do to set up your environment and make it conducive for silence?
After you set up your physical space, you can now focus on your psychological and spiritual space by being still and focusing on your breathing. Use the next few minutes to stay put (sit down or lie down) and turn inward into your breathing. Let this break be your way to reset today.
