When I was a teacher many years ago, I introduced a game to my students. I called it the “Miss Universe game”: I would ask my students to gather around in a circle, and we would ask each other “Miss Universe questions”– questions we are afraid to ask each other because they’re corny, or too serious, or too dramatic–questions asked during a Miss Univese pageant! Questions like: When was the last time you cried and why? If you could come back in time and talk to your 10 year old self, what you tell him/her?
Today, ask yourself some Miss Universe questions about Christmas and pray the prayer below out loud:
1. What would you consider your best Christmas, and why?
2. What does Christmas mean to you this year?
3. Do you still “feel” Christmas? When did this feeling go away?
Let Me Not Keep Christmas
Linda Felver
Let me not wrap, stack, box, bag, tie, tag, bundle, seal, keep Christmas.
Christmas kept is liable to mold.
Let me give Christmas away, unwrapped, by exuberant armfuls.
Let me share, dance, live Christmas unpretentiously, merrily, responsibly with overflowing hands, tireless steps and sparkling eyes.
Christmas given away will stay fresh—even until it comes again. Amen.
