It was in a playground. Franco, my two-year old boy, skipped and hopped inside the play area completely oblivious to my voice.
“Franco! It’s time to go!” I called. He smiled at me and continued his playtime.
I pretended to leave. He kept playing.
I said “goodbye” and then hid behind the gate. He just kept playing.
I mimicked an echo to simulate what sounded like me leaving the play area. He kept playing still.
Then it dawned on me: Franco was just so confident that no matter what he does, his father will never leave him. He knew that I would stay. He knew that I loved him so much that I couldn’t bear to leave him behind.
How I wish we have the same confidence when it comes to God. That no matter what happens, our confidence should be that our Heavenly Father will never leave us…that He will stay no matter what.
Just like Franco, we can be very busy at times — him with his toys while us with our careers.
Just like Franco, we can be very stubborn too.
Just like Franco, we can also be deaf to God’s call.
Just like Franco, we can disobey continuously.
But unlike Franco, we often second-guess our Heavenly Father. We can lose our confidence in His mercy and in His love. In the midst of our unworthiness, we tend to wonder if God still cares and if He will still forgive us this time around.
The Bible says:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
My friend, whatever you’ve done or undergone in the past or whatever you will still do or undergo in the future, remember this: Nothing can separate you from God’s love.

After a few more minutes, Franco looked up and saw me standing idly by the playground gate. He gave me his biggest smile and ran to my arms. I embraced him tightly. Hugging my neck snugly as I carried him to our car, he whispered close to my ear: “Go home na.”
I wish we can all say the same thing to God one day as we finally breath our last.
Have a blessed week ahead!
reminds me–so much of how people imagine God to be is ultimately rooted in how their parents were. Atty. Quitain’s son is lucky. ;p
