A Power Word is the theme you choose for yourself to guide, master, and direct your life this year. Last year, my word was SHIFT. And I didn’t know how powerful that word is until I shifted careers, got married, and found myself living with my wife, in a foreign country. It would be meaningful to do this exercise in the context of prayer.

“In the beginning was the Word
And the Word was with God
And the Word was God.”

Here is a Worksheet from Christine Kane to help you on your way. Let this be your prayer today. The goal is not to finish today, the goal is to start the ball rolling and start praying about that one word or phrase that would be your guiding light this year. I suggest you take the weekend to do this exercise. And if you’ve chosen your word, I would love for you to share it in the section below.

  1. My powerword for 2014 was SHIFT. It is a word that became true because it guided my year, but it also happened beyond my wildest imagination.

My word for 2015 is NOW. NOW is a call to action. Eckhart Tolle once said, “It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.” NOW means no longer to put things off. NOW is about making things happen.

NOW is a call for courage–not to be cowed by fear or anxiety. Not to be afraid of things that have not happened or to be afraid of things that have happened in the past. It is to be in the present. Because it is in the NOW that things are healed and things make sense.

Finally, NOW is a call to pray. “As soon as you honor the NOW, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out of the NOW, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love – even the most simple action.”
